Over the past 25 years, I’ve worked across the entire financial spectrum—from the fast-paced private sector to managing high-stakes public budgets for Fairfax and Arlington Counties. This background gave me a unique vantage point. I understand how private businesses need to move quickly to stay profitable, but I also know the rigorous standards of government-level audit readiness.
Bridging the Gap
I often think of myself as a Financial Translator. In addition to my accounting career, I spent a decade teaching English to adult learners. That experience taught me how to take dense, technical concepts and make them accessible. Whether I’m helping a small business owner with book cleaning or providing a ledger health check, my goal is to turn “the numbers” into a clear, manageable path forward.
A Different Kind of Ledger
Outside of the office, I write under the pen name Laughs by Teresa. I am the author of The Unbalanced Ledger, a book that is part memoir and part guide. I believe that financial literacy shouldn’t feel like a chore; it should feel like a straightforward conversation with someone who knows their way around a balance sheet.
The Creative Edge: Psychological Suspense
I also apply my analytical eye to the world of upmarket psychological suspense. My work-in-progress novel, The Hidden Ledger, draws on my decades of financial experience to explore how easily the truth can be overlooked—sometimes even within a 0.0003% rounding error. Whether I’m looking at a complex budget or a plot twist, I’ve learned that the most important details are often hidden in plain sight.
